A Castlehill mum didn’t let a week in hospital alter plans for her 10th - and final - charity tea party.Diz Stratton, who has raised thousands for good causes through the events, lives with lupus, fibromyalgia and spinal issues - but didn’t let a week in hospital prevent her raising more than £900 for the Vale of Leven Hospital’s oncology ward. And she said that supporting the unit was personal - with close family members having received incredible care at the Vale.Diz told the Lennox: “My husband’s gran Cathie Buist was treated in the Vale for her cancer.

Sadly she passed away eight years ago this November.“Her daughter Connie Stratton has multiple myeloma and was on her own treatment journey.

Sadly, she has had bad and rare side effects of terrible neuropathy in her calves and feet.“Around the same time, my own mum, who lives in Paisley, where I grew up, found out that she has throat cancer.“During her own treatment journey she suffered a huge ischemic stroke and has been left paralysed on her whole right side and her husband, Paul, is now her full time carer.“All that motivated and pushed me to raise money for the families who are all using the ward.

And my mother-in-law is my inspiration and my rock.“The money we raised goes straight to the people who need the services the most.”Diz always intended this to be her final tea party, after a decade of raising thousands of pounds for good causes. However those plans faced jeopardy when she was hospitalised herself.Diz explained: “I have lupus, fibromyalgia, Antiphospholipid syndrome and osteoarthritis myself, and I have two-and-a-half discs missing from my back due to sepsis.
