Staycations don’t get more quintessentially Scottish than staying at Cameron House, a huge mansion-style hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond, about 40 minutes north of Glasgow. The staff wear tartan uniforms, there’s a towering wall of whiskies to sample in the bar, and if you arrive on a Friday or Saturday you’ll be welcomed with bagpipes at the hotel’s grand entrance. Dating back to the early 18th century, the building has an interesting history, even operating as a bear park at one point before becoming the standout destination it is today for weekenders and holidaymakers from around the world.
