Boris Johnson has been asked why he has not yet imposed any sanctions on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich over his alleged "links" to the Kremlin. The Russian billionaire bought Chelsea from Ken Bates in 2003 and has since invested heavily to bring in a golden era of success at Stamford Bridge.Johnson is now facing mounting calls to sanction Abramovich, though, including from Labour leader Keir Starmer, who pressed the Prime Minister during PMQs on Wednesday in the House of Commons.Abramovich is understood to have put Chelsea up for sale as he looks to sell his UK assets following Russia's invasion of Ukraine last week.Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Starmer questioned the Prime Minister as he exclaimed: "We must stand up to Putin and those who prop up his regime."Roman Abramovich is the owner of Chelsea FC and various other high-value assets in the UK.“He’s a person of interest to the Home Office because of his links to the Russian state and his public association with corrupt activity and practices.“Last week the Prime Minister said Abramovich is facing sanctions.
He later corrected the record to say he isn’t. Well, why on earth isn’t he?”Should Roman Abramovich be sanctioned for his links to Russia?
