Broadway. Two and a half years after allegations that Michael Jackson sexually abused two children resurfaced in the shocking documentary Leaving Neverland, preview performances have started of a lavish biographical musical about the late musician’s life.
With a book by the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage and direction by the acclaimed Royal Ballet choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, MJ The Musical has a rumoured budget of around $20 million and is taking place in the vast 1,445-seater Neil Simon Theatre.
The first preview last Monday night sold out and included three standing ovations as it progressed. But hold on. Isn’t this supposed to be the late, disgraced pop star Michael Jackson?
