Universal Credit (UC) is on the rise. According to the latest Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe) figures the number of people being given a choice about how their UC is paid rose by 175,190 in just five months.
It comes as the Work and Pensions minister Therese Coffey announced earlier this week that the £20-a-week increase in UC which was introduced at the start of the pandemic will be scrapped in September.
The cut, according to opposition parties and charities, is expected to plunge thousands of Scots into poverty. In March 2020 at the start of the covid pandemic, 342,000 Scots were offered an Alternative Payment Arrangement (APA).
