UK weather: Britain bracing for 'subtropical swell' set to send temperatures soaring

Brits shouldn't pack away the shorts and suncream just yet with a 600-mile 'subtropical swell' set to sent September temperatures soaring.

Warmer air sweeping in across the Atlantic and it will make the UK as warm as Spain towards the beginning of the week. The sunshine is expected from Tuesday onwards as hopes of an Indian summer rise.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said the south east of the UK might experience highs of 26c next week. It's a far cry from a week ago, when Storm Ellen bashed Britain and brought 70mph winds.

Bookie Coral's betting suggests this month could be the hottest September on record. But before the sun makes a comeback, rain expected across England and Wales before the UK sees warmer weather on Tuesday.
