With a renewed focus on the nautical, IWC turns its attention to the Portugieser – a model that made its debut in 1939 Shortly before the global coronavirus lockdown, Christoph Grainger-Herr and Christian Knoop, IWC’s respective CEO and creative director, completed a mini world-tour previewing the brand’s refreshed Portugieser collection.
The prominence given to the unveiling of the pieces reflects the importance IWC attaches to the new collection, the Portugieser being the its most recognisable and talismanic design, as well as a return to the quaint idea that the brand should be talking about the watches it makes rather than the latest doings of the brand’s closest celebrity friends.
