GPs fear that 'hidden' illnesses are going unchecked because people worry they are wasting doctors' time during the coronavirus outbreak.
Two GPs told the M.E.N they had seen a significant drop in patients contacting surgeries due to COVID-19. Their fear is that people are not getting unexplained changes in their health checked out, either because they don't want to burden the system, or because they're scared of attending GP practices and clinics.
Doctors say symptoms of much more serious illnesses like cancer could be missed amid the current crisis. GPs stress that they are still open for assessments, and that steps have been taken to protect patients from the virus.
