One year on from her daughter Azaylia's tragic death, Safiyya Vorajee, opened up in an interview with Lorraine Kelly. During her appearance on Wednesday morning's show (27 April), Safiyya revealed that her new book was originally intended for Azaylia to read when she grew up.
Loving and Losing You, Azaylia: My Inspirational Daughter and OurUnbreakable Bond is – in Lorraine's words – "a heartbreaking but uplifting" account of Safiyya's grief that is based on the diaries she kept while Azaylia was still alive. "When I was in hospital I was hoping and praying for a much happier outcome of everything," Safiyya explained.

Safiyya continued: "I wrote a diary and, when Azaylia grew up, I wanted her to read her book so that she could see how much of an inspiration she was, how many people's lives she was changing, and how many people's lives she saved.
Unfortunately that wasn't the case. "I hope this book goes on to really help so many people learn and cope and not feel alone and to really see things through a mother's perspective." Speaking about her bond with Azaylia, Safiyya recalled the devastating day that she and ex-partner Ashley Cain lost their beloved daughter. "I woke up in the morning and I went downstairs and I said, 'I feel like today’s the day.' I didn't say that any other day." Speaking openly with Lorraine, she added: "I looked at Azaylia and she looked tired.
