Emile Mosseri to Score Donald Glover’s Upcoming ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ Amazon Series

Thania Garcia Emile Mosseri is slated to score the new Amazon original series “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” created by Donald Glover, Hiro Murai and Francesca Sloane. The new show — which is based on Doug Liman’s 2005 film of the same title (scored by John Powell) — will star Glover himself, opposite Maya Erskine, Parker Posey and Wagner Moura. Mosseri served as a composer of films such as “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” “Homecoming,” “When You Finish Saving the World,” and “Minari,” for which he won best original score at the Academy Awards in 2021. He was also nominated for a Grammy in the best arrangement, instrumental or a cappella category for the song “Infinite Love” from Miranda July’s “Kajillionaire.”

Beninese artist and songwriter Angélique Kidjo, Estonian composer Arvo Pärt and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell have been announced as the recipients of this year’s Polar Music Prize.They will be presented with their prizes and 600,000 Swedish Kroner at a ceremony in Stockholm on 23 May, which will be livestreamed on YouTube if you fancy watching it.Bigging up this year’s winners, the prize’s MD Marie Ledin says: “Angélique Kidjo is an inspirational artist, she constantly explores and challenges and is one of the greatest singer-songwriters in international music. BMI Wins Court Victory in Revenue Dispute With Top Concert Promoters, Wins Its Writers a 138% Raise

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic BMI has prevailed in a New York court in a dispute with Live Nation and AEG over collections of songwriting revenue from live concerts, earning a judgment the performing rights organization said would earn its affiliates 138% higher than the historical rate. Louis L. Stanton of the Southern District of New York issued the ruling giving songwriters and publishers the raise on live revenue. BMI said that as a result of the judgment, that extra money will also come from tickets sold on the secondary market, service fees and VIP packages. BMI president-CEO Mike O’Neill expressed the org’s delight with the court victory, while still throwing shade at the two concert promoters and the North American Concert Promoters Association (NACPA) for years of opposition to carving out a boost in songwriter revenue.
