Adnan Syed, the subject of the hit 2014 podcast Serial, was released from prison last September after 23 years, but now his murder conviction has been reinstated. Adnan was convicted for the 1999 murder of his ex-girlfriend, but he maintained his innocence over the years and the Serial podcast raised speculation about his guilt.
The conviction was overturned by Baltimore Circuit Judge Melissa Phinn after prosecutors raised doubts about the ruling after it was revealed there were alternative suspects.
Now, the conviction has been reinstated and fans are probably wondering if he’s going back to prison or not. Keep reading to find out more… NBC News reports that the conviction was reinstated after victim Hae Min Lee‘s family “arguing that they were not properly notified of the efforts to release Syed last year.” After the family filed an appeal, the appeals court ruled in their favor and a new hearing will be held.
In the meantime, the murder charges have been reinstated. So, will Adnan be sent back to prison? “Tuesday’s decision and the new hearing are seen as a procedural issue, and there is no reason to believe Syed will be sent back to prison.
