Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

After Major Charles Ingram and his wife Diana were accused, and later convicted, of cheating to bag the £1million prize on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, public sentiment quickly turned against them.

But the actor who plays the controversial figure in a new ITV drama believes that the couple were punished too heavily for their actions, and even doubts whether they were guilty at all.

Matthew Macfadyen, who stars as Charles in the upcoming series Quiz, says that regardless of whether Charles and his wife Diana were guilty of cheating, the pair have suffered enough.
