Ardent Putin critic Alexei Navalny has been jailed for three-and a-half years in Russia after a court found he violated the terms of his probation.
Allies have called for new protests in Moscow as his lawyer has reportedly said Navalny will appeal the court decision. The dissident was arrested at the Russian border on January 17 after returning from Germany where he had been recovering from a Novichok attack thought to have been carried out by Russia.
He was in court for breaching parole, something he said happened when he was recovering in a coma in Germany. The Kremlin has denied responsibility and instead suggested the dissident is an asset of America's Central Intelligence Agency - a charge he rejects.
