Angelique Jackson Universal is in early development on a new movie about super spy Jason Bourne, with “All Quiet on the Western Front” filmmaker Edward Berger in talks to direct. The new movie would be the latest installment in the blockbuster franchise, which has tallied five films (four of which starred Matt Damon) and more than $800 million at the box office. Sources familiar with the project have stressed that it’s still in early development, so any grand return to the world of Jason Borne may be far into the future.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Matt Damon will never be able to escape his decision to turn down James Cameron’s 2009 space epic “Avatar,” which remains the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.9 billion worldwide (unadjusted for inflation). Damon turned down the film despite an offer that included receiving 10% of the box office back end, which would’ve meant a $250 million payday for him. During a recent interview with Chris Wallace, the “Avatar” offer got brought up again and prompted Damon to explain his thought process behind tossing it off. “I’m sure it’s the most money an actor ever turned down, you know?” Damon said about his decision, stressing that he did not want to get out of his contract for another Jason Bourne movie at the time.

Caroline Framke Chief TV Critic At first, Hulu’s “Wedding Season” seems to be a charming enough take on a British “Four Weddings and a Funeral”-style romantic comedy, complete with a hopeless romantic boy, his boisterous friend group, and the enigmatic American girl he falls for the minute he meets her at — where else? — a wedding. But both Oliver Lyttelton’s take on the setup and the American at its center have more up their sleeves than a charming meet-cute. The second that initial layer’s peeled, “Wedding Season” (not to be confused with Netflix’s recent movie of the same name) is off and running in another direction entirely — a murder mystery with roots in the kind of deep corruption that would give Jason Bourne nightmares. Whether or not it all hangs together will be for the audience to decide, with all eight episodes out Sept. 8 on Hulu (but only seven made available for critics ahead of its premiere). What is clear regardless of how the mystery ends, however, is the talent of its cast, and its charismatic lead in particular.

Barry season three finale.The acclaimed HBO comedy-thriller wrapped up its third run last night (June 12), which saw Hader’s titular character finally face consequences after getting arrested by the police.Barry is double-crossed by Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) and gets ambushed by the cops, while many of the other main characters take unexpected turns, with Sally Reed (Sarah Goldberg) killing a man, while NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan) kills his captors in Bolivia.Speaking to Vulture, Hader admitted that he had the conclusion to season three mapped out from the start, recalling: “First day of writing season three on the whiteboard, I wrote down, ‘Cousineau knows, Barry knows Cousineau knows and throws him in the trunk of a car, and that’s in episode one. Sally’s going to have her own show and at some point it’s going to go away. Cristobal and Hank are a couple.

Director Doug Liman is busy putting together a bunch of films. There’s the thriller “Everest,” a new version of “Road House” starring Jake Gyllenhaal (“Ambulance“), and a sequel to Tom Crusie’s sci-fi actioner “Edge of Tomorrow” he keeps pushing for.
