King Charles' official portrait in full regalia for public buildings unveiled

A new official portrait has been unveiled of King Charles III, ready to hang in public buildings across the UK as part of a controversial £8 million Government-funded scheme. Charles, 75, is pictured in full regalia inside Windsor Castle wearing his Royal Navy uniform as an Admiral of the Fleet and an abundance of official medals and decorations.The monarch was captured last year by photographer Hugo Burnand, who also took the King and Queen Camilla's coronation portraits and their 2005 wedding photos.

London, the residence of the Queen is said to be requesting hefty sums of cash for renovations.With proposed plans for renovating the massive pad accounting for around £369million, one expert has said the "absurd" price tag should be offset by ticket revenue made by the palace opening its doors every day of the year.READ MORE: Royals tried to 'intimidate' Harry with isolation after William calls 'not productive'Plans to renovate the palace come after a report from the official Royal Family website citing a need for an overhaul to the "building infrastructure".A statement on royal.uk reads: "The Palace’s electrical cabling, plumbing and heating have not been updated since the 1950s."The building’s infrastructure is in urgent need of a complete overhaul to prevent long-term damage to the building and its contents."The most cost-effective way to replace these essential services, and to ensure that The Palace is fit for purpose for the next 50 years, is to undertake a phased programme of works over ten years."But Republic's chief executive, Graham Smith, said that a change was needed for the plans now that the Queen has moved to her Windsor property.Speaking to Sky News the Chief Executive said: "MPs for years have been saying you need to open up the palace to tourists all year round."With that ticket revenue that you raise you’ll then be able to fund these sorts of repairs and restorations without coming back to the Treasury."We have hospitals and schools, police services struggling to make ends meet.
