Prince Andrew is yet again embroiled in controversy! It just never ends with this guy… Per documents obtained by the New York Post on Tuesday, the Duke of York was reported to the police for allegedly using a fake name to register several companies, including one back in 2003.

The scandal was brought forth by the anti-monarchy group Republic, which accused Andrew of falsifying official documents by using the moniker “Andrew Inverness” to set up his company called Naples Gold Limited (which was dissolved in 2021). In papers viewed by the outlet, Andrew registered the company through Companies House, the UK’s public registry of companies, and was described as a “consultant.” On why this name issue matters, Graham Smith, the chief exec of Republic, told The Telegraph: It’s important to note that Andrew is not being accused of fraud, but Smith still wants him to be “held to the highest standards” for the supposed fake name, he continued: London’s Metropolitan Police is now determining whether or not they will take up any action.

Andrew has not commented on the scandal. Here’s the tricky thing, though, and something that might work in the 64-year-old’s favor.

Royals are actually known to use their royal titles as their surname and have done so for decades. So, while Republic claims Andrew’s legal name is Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, he was granted the title Earl of Inverness by Queen Elizabeth II after his 1986 wedding.
