Just a couple of weeks ago, the folks at Sundance were startled by Brandon Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool.” Not only is it another mind-bending feature from one of the most experimental, somewhat mainstream filmmakers working today, but he surprised everyone with an NC-17 cut of the film. This is a different version than what was just released this past weekend in theaters, which carried a more typical R rating.

Brent Lang Executive Editor Neon, the indie studio behind “Parasite” and “Anatomy of a Fall,” has tapped the producers of “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Jon Read and Allison Rose Carter, to lead their growing production arm. Read and Carter are the co-founders of Savage Rose Films.

Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg (“Crimes of The Future“) has fathered some talented children; his son Brandon Cronenberg already making a name for himself with blood-soaked mature projects like “Possessor” and “Infinity Pool.” Now, his artist daughter Caitlin Cronenberg is also getting into the moviemaking business with her feature film debut, “Humane.” The film was just acquired by IFC Films and Shudder from XYZ Films with a plan to hit the big screen before becoming an exclusive on the streaming service.

EXCLUSIVE: Topic Studios, the award-winning production company behind titles like Theater Camp and 100 Foot Wave, has laid off over 20 employees, multiple sources tell Deadline. We hear that almost all divisions are affected, and that the company’s TV division has shuttered altogether. Employees were notified on Tuesday.

Neon has acquired North American rights to Robot Dreams, the first animated feature from Spanish filmmaker Pablo Berger (Blancanieves), which is poised to premiere in the Special Screenings section of the Cannes Film Festival this Saturday, May 20th.

Ethan Shanfeld Just days after winning the Oscar for best animated feature for his dark take on “Pinocchio,” Guillermo del Toro is already looking to cast his next film. Sources tell Variety that Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth are in early talks to star in Netflix’s live-action “Frankenstein” movie, which del Toro will write and direct. Del Toro has been developing the project, based on English author Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, for several years, but it’s unclear how faithful he intends to interpret the source material. “Frankenstein” is part of the filmmaker’s multi-year deal with Netflix, where del Toro has a number of projects in various stages of development. Conversations about “Frankenstein” are in the very early stages, sources tell Variety.

Neon and Topic Studios present writer/director Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool at 1,835 theaters in a lively specialty weekend sandwiched between a new crop of Sundance films and noteworthy expansions in the glow of Oscar nominations.

Not yet thirty years old, Mia Goth has already collaborated with several world-renowned filmmakers for her willingness to follow their most demented muses. Her girlish appearance strikes a shocking contrast with the atrocity exhibitions that she gravitates toward: eagerly taking to sexual grooming in Lars Von Trier’s “Nymphomaniac;” undergoing forcible insemination and grisly spaghettification with Claire Denis in “High Life;” becoming an insane asylum’s incestuous princess for Gore Verbinski in “A Cure for Wellness;” witnessing her own disembowelment as part of the orgiastic blood ritual Luca Guadagnino that’s the grand finale to “Suspiria;” manifesting a century of madness for Ti West’s in-progress trio of period pieces of “X,” “Pearl,” and the upcoming “Maxxxine.” And so it’s no surprise that Goth’s latest outing is another twisted affair: Brandon Cronenberg‘s “Infinity Pool,” which takes place at a Mediterranean beach resort that hides a violent and depraved sub-culture.

Infinity Pool has left critics aghast with its scenes of executions, orgies and full-frontal nudity in first reviews of the shocking horror film starring Alexander Skarsgard and Mia Goth.The film, directed by Possessor's Brandon Cronenberg, follows writer James Foster (Skarsgard)  and Em Foster (Cleopatra Coleman), a couple enjoying an all-inclusive beach vacation in the fictional island of La Tolqa, when a fatal accident exposes the resort's perverse subculture of hedonistic tourism, violence and surreal horrors.In one of the film's most shocking scenes, Goth, who plays a free-spirited tourist and actress Gabi, performs a sex act on Skarsgard's Foster, with the writer ejaculating with his manhood fully shown on screen.

JG Ballard meets Ben Wheatley in Brandon Cronenberg’s latest. Which is a bit of a surprise, since the two have already met: in 2015, in the latter’s dystopian satire High-Rise. There are (literal) shades of Nicolas Winding Refn, too, and a healthy smattering of body horror inherited from the old man, whose filmography Cronenberg Jr. raids to make an unlikely fusion of Videodrome and A History of Violence, two very opposing milestones in his father’s career.

We are just under two weeks away from the kickoff of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. However, the folks at Sundance aren’t done announcing new additions to the festival lineup.

John Malkovich starrer Seneca – On the Creation of Earthquakes and Alex Gibney’s untitled Boris Becker documentary are set to have their world premieres at the upcoming Berlin International Film Festival next year. The projects are among the six titles which will play in the fest’s Berlinale Special Gala section, which also includes Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth and Cleopatra Coleman and Todd Field’s Tár.

The 2023 Sundance Film Festival is almost a month away and this morning the Sundance Institute revealed the Indie Episodic and Short Film slates for the festival. 64 shorts were selected from 10,981 submissions, the highest on record.

With 2020’s “Possessor,” Brandon Cronenberg made a film to make his father, the body-horror master David Cronenberg, proud. The film quickly won over critics at the Sundance Film Festival for its trippy, grotesque take on sci-fi horror, with winning performances from Christopher Abbot and Andrea Riseborough.

Next month will see the return of the Sundance Film Festival; thankfully, we have a string of first looks of the 2023 lineup of films which includes Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor starring in the near future drama “The Pod Generation” that focuses on technology’s influence on pregnancies, Jonathan Majors-led bodybuilding pic “Magazine Dreams,” and director Brandon Cronenberg’s (“Possession”) new dystopian thriller “Infinity Pool,” which has Alexander Skarsgård (“The Northman”) and Mia Goth (“Pearl”) in lead roles.
