NHS test and trace fails to reach a quarter of people who tested positive

The NHS coronavirus Test and Trace has failed to reach more than a quarter of those who tested positive. Under the system people who test positive for the virus are asked to provide contacts for everyone they have spent more than 15 minutes in close contact with.

Those contacts are then asked to self-isolate for two weeks to avoid spreading the disease. Baroness Dido Harding, who heads the programme, admitted last week that it was not yet "gold standard" but was "fit for purpose”.

Since 28 May 2020, when the system began, 14,045 people who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) had their case transferred to the contact tracing system, of whom 72.6% (10,192 people) were reached and asked to provide details of their recent close
