suits from Comme des Garcons, Yohji Yamamoto and Paul Smith – but for me it has to be about the fit and the fabric. I hate anything tight and restricted – I have broad shoulders and a big arse – and anything with man-made fabrics; it has to be in natural fibre like cotton or wool.
I like clothes that feel good on the body; soft cottons and linens. I need big pockets for all the things I carry with me in my day-to-day life such as secateurs, string, seed packets, pencils.
That’s why my braces aren’t an affectation; the baggy, oversized trousers I wear are born out of practicality. If I see something I like, I buy multiples of everything – I can easily snap up 12 blue linen shirts.
I buy a great deal from Old Town in Holt in Norfolk, which is a fantastic, small independent company. I have at least 20 suits from them.
