It's astonishing how Bale isn't deemed fit enough to turn out for Real, but can then conjure incredible moments for his national team to fire them to within 90 minutes of a place at the World Cup for the first time in almost seven decades.
His two goals to inspire Wales to a thrilling 2-1 win over Austria in Cardiff included a stunning free-kick that was more than good enough to grace the Bernabeu.
It was quite a message to send back to the Spanish capital, where Bale has played just two hours of football in six months. Given the fact Real got smashed by bitter rivals Barcelona last weekend, it's hard to believe Carlo Ancelotti cannot find a role for Bale somewhere in his team or squad.
