Mayors are urging the government to rethink a 40% cut to the body tasked with improving transport in the North. Transport for the North (TfN) is set to have its budget slashed from £10m in 2020/21 to £6m in 2021/22.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has been urged to rethink the cut in DfT funding in a letter signed by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, North Tyneside Mayor Jamie Driscoll, Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis and Liverpool Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham.
It comes as new research found the Tories have re-announced or re-committed to major rail projects in the North more than 60 times in the last seven years – without work commencing on any of them. What is your view?
