Heartbreak as transplant patient proposes to partner and awakes thinking he has new heart

As Brooklyn Peakman, 20, was being prepared for surgery when he popped that special question to Ellie Spencer, 18. He told her that he needed to do it before he lost the heart he was born with, North Wales Live reports.The next day, Brooklyn awoke from his operation thinking that he now had a new heart and that the wedding could go ahead.
His mum Kelly, from Prestatyn, was at his bedside to break the devastating news. “Four hours into the operation, the surgeons got a call to say the donor heart had deteriorated and it was too risky to continue,” she said.“The next day, when he woke up, he could see he had extra tubes in his body, and could feel where the surgeons had cut him open, so he assumed the operation had been a success.“When I told him, it was a real shock to the system.
He’s sore, in pain and pretty down about what’s happened.”In December Brooklyn was left fighting for his life after he “died twice” during a 19-hour operation to replace a faulty heart valve.
