Boris Johnson has claimed 'no cut' to cash for the body tasked with improving transport in the North - despite plans for a 40% reduction in its budget.

The Mirror last week reported plans to slash the budget of Transport for the North from £10m in 2020/21 to £6m in 2021/22. But asked about the cut at Prime Minister's Questions, the PM said there was "no such cut." Transport Secretary Grant Shapps was urged to rethink the cut in DfT funding in a letter signed by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, North Tyneside Mayor Jamie Driscoll, Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis and Liverpool Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham.
