Manchester hospitals are suspending non-urgent surgery to free up beds for coronavirus patients. The biggest NHS trust in charge of nine hospitals in Manchester, the Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT), is understood to be cancelling all elective operations from tomorrow (Wednesday).

Only treatment for patients with life-threatening conditions and cancer activity will go ahead at the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) and Wythenshawe Hospital.
