Marta Balaga Finland’s Fireframe Studios has boarded upcoming Arctic thriller “The Ice.” Developed in collaboration with Nordisk Film Production, it’s based on the successful novel by Norwegian writer John Kåre Raake, also behind movies “The Wave” and “The Quake,” and series “The Fortress.” Filming is scheduled for next year. The story plays out at one of Earth’s most inhospitable places, the North Pole, with the team teasing “The Ice” as a “highlight for thrill-seeking audience, combining high concept with tense political conflicts.” As well as “ice-cold thrills and warm human drama.” “It’s an ideal co-production for Fireframe.

Christopher Vourlias An explosive confrontation between a Muslim man and a Christian mob in an African nation on the brink is at the heart of “Safe House,” an upcoming drama from Norwegian filmmaker Eirik Svensson. The film, which is being repped internationally by TrustNordisk, was presented among the works in progress this week at the Finnish Film Affair in Helsinki.

Marta Balaga “Kalevala,” a compilation of epic poetry drawn from Karelian and Finnish folklore and mythology, is full of violence, but director Antti J. Jokinen – who has adapted the book for his film “Kalevala: The Story of Kullervo,” set in the 1100s and centering on the tragic hero Kullervo – has “no interest” in that. “It won’t be a super violent film.

Film Festival. Korva’s feature debut follows Jane, a travel agent who sells people on adventure but is happily settled in her own life with her partner, Mikki.
