‘Deeper’ Review: Jennifer Peedom’s Doc Offers A Surprising Coda To 2018’s Thai Cave Rescue
In June of 2018, The Wild Boars, a teenage Thai football team, went into the labyrinthine caves of Tham Luang on a team-building exercise, as they had apparently done several times before. It was supposed to take an hour or so, as it usually did. This time, though, it rained, flooding the caves, and the rain didn’t stop until all 12 players and their coach were royally stranded. The next 18 days kept the world on tenterhooks, and the astonishing outcome fueled a whole host of documentaries plus a Ron Howard Netflix drama, Thirteen Lives, starring Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell and Joel Edgerton.

‘How Deep Is Your Love’ Review: A Mischievous Documentary Dive Into an Unfamiliar Ecosystem
Guy Lodge Film Critic Around ninety percent of life forms in the deep sea have yet to be named by humans, British director Eleanor Mortimer informs us in the course of her documentary “How Deep Is Your Love.” It’s a statistic somehow comforting in its vagueness — how, after all, can we put an exact figure on what is unknown to us — and humbling in its vastness, a reminder that we still don’t own huge stretches of the globe we profess to run. Across history, any number of explorers, scientists and storytellers have been fascinated by the essential, alien hostility of the ocean to our species, and its enduring status as a place we can only visit but never settle.
