Read on for the full guide.The four-episode miniseries is set on the titular Canary Island and follows a Norwegian family whose vacation takes a perilous turn when Marie, a researcher at the local geological institute, discovers signs of an imminent and potentially catastrophic eruption of the island’s deadly volcano.The show was created by Martin Sundland (The Quake), Lars Gudmestad (Headhunters) and Harald Rosenløw Eeg (The Wave), and has been directed by Kasper Barfoed (The Nurse).Co-written by Gudmestad and Rosenløw Eeg, it stars Thea Sofie Loch Næss as Marie and Anders Baasmo Christiansen, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal as a married couple who have brought their children on holiday to the island.All four episodes of La Palma dropped on Netflix on December 12.As Marie seeks to warn authorities about the incoming disaster, her bosses reject her information out of fear of sounding a false alarm and request that Marie comes up with more substantial proof.By the time of the eruption, the government have only just managed to put some safety procedures in place, including halting air travel.The central family in La Palma ultimately survive, with Jennifer and Fredrik and their children Sara and Tobias becoming separated early on in the panic. Sara had boarded a plane, expecting her family to be there, but gives up her seat – the plane goes on crash amid the volcanic cloud.At one point, Fredrik appears to be resigned to his fate, but is found by Marie and they are able to escape to the safe zone via a boat.

Christopher Vourlias An explosive confrontation between a Muslim man and a Christian mob in an African nation on the brink is at the heart of “Safe House,” an upcoming drama from Norwegian filmmaker Eirik Svensson. The film, which is being repped internationally by TrustNordisk, was presented among the works in progress this week at the Finnish Film Affair in Helsinki.

Brent Lang Executive Editor Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to “Arctic Convoy,” a Norwegian naval thriller that is set in the middle of World War II. The film is from the producers of “The Wave” trilogy, so it’s a homecoming of sorts given that Magnolia released all three installments of that series.
