Duckwrth — the pseudonym of rapper and songwriter Jared Lee — is tapping back into himself as an artist. Every moment of his career thus far led to his major label debut SuperGood, an LP he describes as a celebration “of the wondrous black music that molded me into an artist and the black women that made me a king.” The album arrived late last summer, during one of the least convenient times in modern history to put out a body of work.

He’s not sweating it, though. “2020 taught me how to be patient, and work with the tools you have, because you don’t have the same access,” he says.

Now still in the throes of a pandemic with no determinate end, he faces the new pressure of using his abundance of time in a way that’s productive.
