CAPSS LLC, a new company formed by L.A. Clippers chairman Steve Ballmer and vice chairman Dennis Wong, has reached an agreement with the Madison Square Garden Company to purchase The Forum arena in Inglewood, California, for $400 million in cash, it was announced Tuesday (March 24).In addition to the acquisition, the agreement will resolve three separate lawsuits filed by Madison Square Garden Company chairman James Dolan against Ballmer and the City of Inglewood over Ballmer’s plans to build a new 18,000 seat basketball arena for the Clippers less than two miles from The Forum.

The Clippers organization has reached an agreement to purchase The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. from The Madison Square Garden Company for $400 million cash. The iconic venue will continue to host concerts while plans for a “fan-focused community project” that includes a NBA arena and team headquarters, also move forward.

Steve Ballmer, owner of the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Clippers, is “in advanced negotiations” to purchase The Forum in Inglewood, California, from the Madison Square Garden Company, according to reports in ESPN and the Los Angeles Times. While the deal would advance the franchise’s efforts to build a new home arena in the area, it would also change the complicated — and at times contentious — ownership structure of Los Angeles-area arenas, which also involves major venues in New York and London.
