Chelsea are set to lose out to their Big Six rivals in the race to sign two academy targets after billionaire owner Roman Abramovich was hit by sanctions from the UK government.Sanctions against Abramovich were announced on Thursday morning which confirmed his assets had been frozen under the ‘ Russia Regulations’ ruling, blocking any potential sale of the club after the Russian billionaire, 55, had put Chelsea up for sale.The Blues chief was one of seven oligarchs to have sanctions placed on them by ministers on Thursday morning amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine — bringing the overall tally to more than 200 individuals and entities.Chelsea have been given a special licence to continue day-to-day operations by the government but cannot earn any income, with ticket sales and club merchandise suspended until the sanctions are lifted.They have also been prevented from signing or selling new players, which could affect their summer transfer plans and wide-ranging recruitment for their highly-renowned academy setup at Cobham.According to The Daily Mail, the Blues have seen their rivals swoop on two academy players that they had been in talks to sign before the sanctions were placed upon Abramovich.There are understood to be ‘at least two players’ who were on the verge of signing with the west London club, but are now securing moves elsewhere.Worse yet, Chelsea look resigned to losing out on future talents to their Big Six rivals after catching wind of the deals that collapsed.HAVE YOUR SAY: What do you make of the decision to sanction Roman Abramovich? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts has announced it will not require Academy Award attendees who live outside of Los Angeles to quarantine before the big night.The Academy made the decision to drop the five-day quarantine on the advice of its medical advisors,according toDeadline, which reported the news on Thursday.Attendees will not need to quarantine, but everyone will still be required to take and pass PCR tests.
