The Chicago Seven drew crowds bigger than the Beatles during their dramatic 1969 trial over anti-Vietnam War protests. Billed as the biggest political trial in US history, a perfect storm of political unrest, generational conflict and a biased judge set the stage for some of the most bizarre scenes ever seen in court.

This week a film telling the incredible story landed five Golden Globe nomiminations. Sadly one of the seven, Rennie Davis, who inspired a generation hungry for revolution, died aged 80 from lymphoma the day before the nominations were announced.

But in one of his final interviews, Rennie told the Mirror about his incredible campaigning life – including a friendship with John Lennon. What is your view?
