Ultimate Fighting Championship is well-regarded as the world's biggest mixed martial arts promotion, but every juggernaut needs its pioneers.Despite the fact MMA was only in its infancy when UFC 1 debuted in 1993, some of those who featured in the card are still revered as icons today.

Royce Gracie emerged as the inaugural champion in Denver, Colorado, and retains legendary status in the UFC some 600 or so live shows later.Eight fighters from different martial arts backgrounds featured at UFC 1, but semi-finalist Kevin Rozier and Taekwondo expert Patrick Smith sadly died in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
