A 'malaria' themed mural has been unveiled on a four-storey wall in Stobswell. The huge painting was designed by artist Florence Blanchard in partnership with Dundee University scientists.
Florence - who spent 10 years working and studying art in New York - was chosen from dozens of entries to paint the huge wall on Craigie Street.
A spokesman for Stobfest organisers revealed how the unusual partnership came about. They said: “Open/Close Dundee and the Stobswell Forum have teamed up with scientists from the University of Dundee’s Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research.“The team there are perhaps best known for their anti-malarial medicine breakthrough.“After it works through clinical trials, we hope it will save millions of lives.“They are also heavily invested in working with communities here in Dundee, and this new project will be a very visible sign of that.”Open/Close funded a shortlist of artists to develop their ideas before choosing Florence Blanchard as the winner. The spokesman added: “Her concept focuses on malaria parasites, beautifully bringing the Centre’s scientific work to life.” **Don't miss the latest headlines from around Dundee and Tayside.
