Heart disease risk 'raised' by breakfast staple that ups cholesterol levels

A whopping 7.6 million Brits are living with heart disease and health experts say eating bacon doesn't help matters.When eaten frequently, bacon will raise cholesterol, increasing your risk of coronary heart disease, the most common type of the condition.

Mayo Clinic, a renowned US medical centre, has warned bacon lovers about its unfortunate effects on the heart, The Express reported.

Just two rashers of bacon and two sausages at breakfast bypasses how much red or processed meat experts say you should eat a day.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) suggests that with an ageing and growing population and improved survival rates from heart and circulatory events, we could see these numbers rise still further.
