Hashem Abedi's trial was one which many feared would never happen. The terrorist was in Libya at the time his brother Salman Abedi detonated a bomb at Manchester Arena, killing 22 people and himself, while injuring hundreds of others.
Following the May 22, 2017, attack, Hashem was detained in Libya. The north African country has been wracked by conflict and instability since dictator Colonel Muammar Gaddafi regime ended, after over 40 years, with a 2011 uprising.
But, despite the challenges posed by the situation in Libya, in July last year, the authorities did succeed in bringing Hashem back from Tripoli to face justice, and within months he was on trial at the Old Bailey in London.
