Putin and Russian Embassy trolled by FBI with extremely targeted Facebook ads

Russia's attack on Ukraine rages on, the FBI have stepped up in its efforts to recruit people to the fight in the US by making use of Facebook ads.The hope with these ads is to attract any dissatisfied or disillusioned Russians, to join the counter-intelligence efforts against the war by providing any information they might have.

Facebook allow advertisers to target their ads according to location, and the FBI has taken advantage of this by putting out ads that will appear on people's feed if they are standing close to the Russian Embassy building, in Washington, DC.

The clever ad shows Sergey Naryshkin, director of Russia ’s Foreign Intelligence Service, looking uncomfortable as he stands beside a stern Putin.

Text, which appears alongside the ad, recalls the series of tense moments from one of Putin's televised meetings, where he kept interrupting Naryshkin, asking him to "speak plainly." The FBI makes a reference to this statement from Putin at the bottom of the image, writing: "Speak plainly… we are ready to listen."Above the ad, the FBI asks readers to contact the agency with a message that reads: "The information provided to the FBI by the public is the most effective means of combating threats.
