Tony Fitzpatrick admits he struggled to hold it all together when the St Mirren supporters revealed their farewell tribute to the outgoing St Mirren legend.
The words ‘captain’, ‘manager’ and ‘legend’ were proudly raised aloft by the club’s North Bank fan group to pay tribute to the man who has become synonymous with his beloved Buddies.
Ahead of his retirement from his role as chief executive next Thursday, the 66-year-old took in his final St Mirren home game – the 2-1 defeat to Dundee United – from the stands in his current role last weekend.
And while the likes of Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson were among the well wishers, Fitzpatrick insists it was the love shown from the Saints supporters that meant the most to him.
