Gerwyn Price has admitted that he can be "a bit too boisterous" on stage and regrets that he has become the pantomime villain of the darts world. As world number one and the winner of six major titles, the Welshman's talent is undeniable. But that hasn't stopped English fans from targeting him at big events, as the 36-year-old is regularly booed by crowds when not playing in Wales. The ill-feeling towards him from some began at the 2018 Darts Grand Slam final, when he was involved in a bust-up with popular rival Gary Anderson.

Speaking about the effect it has had on him and his career, Price admits that it has been "hard work" to produce his best performances when he regularly receives such a hostile reception."When you're on stage you're up there to do a job – I'm not up there to make people hate me, but if that's the way they feel about my stage presence and the way I am then I can't help that," he said on the Happy Hour Podcast."I've just got to go up there and do a job.

It's all from that one game years ago, the 2018 Grand Slam final."Things happened between me and Gary [Anderson] and when I won the tournament the crowd started booing – even when I was lifting the trophy up – and it hasn't stopped since.Does Gerwyn Price go too far with his on-stage celebrations?

Have your say in the comments section."It did calm down a little bit, but it's been hard work for the past two-and-a-half, three years."Price went on to hint that he regrets what happened during that match, and the effect it had on his reputation among fans."It wasn't really an argument, but it was a bit of friction on stage," he added."We were both probably a bit too boisterous and, as I am on stage, if I hit something good I always like to show my emotions.
