Gerwyn Price in tears after losing world No1 spot to Peter Wright after more fan abuse

Darts star Gerwyn Price was left in tears after being knocked off the world number one position by Peter Wright.After 14 months in first place, the Welshman finally dropped down, with fans heckling the sportsman as he tasted defeat to Michael Smith in the 2022 UK Open.And the 37-year-old could not hide his emotions at the news, uploading a picture of himself with tears in his eyes to Instagram with the caption: “That hurt but I’ll be back.”Another image was uploaded, this time a red canvas with text that read: “Well done Mike Smith u did what you had to do…gutted but it is what it is, congratulations to Peter Weight [sic] #1."Price then screenshotted an amicable conversation he had with Smith, congratulating him on his victory in the quarter-final stage of the UK Open and calling Snakebite a 'world-class player.'Smith secured a place in the semi-finals of the competition with a 10-7 win in the Uk Open against Price.

Smith would go on to lose the final 11-10 to Dutchman Danny Noppert. The former rugby player recently admitted that he can be "a bit too boisterous" on stage and that he is now unhappy with becoming a target of booing anywhere outside of Wales, as was the case on Sunday.The jeering started at the 2018 Darts Grand Slam final, where he had a heated moment with popular player Gary Anderson."When you're on stage you're up there to do a job – I'm not up there to make people hate me, but if that's the way they feel about my stage presence and the way I am then I can't help that," he said on the Happy Hour Podcast."I've just got to go up there and do a job.
