French actor Michel Piccoli has died aged 94, his family has confirmed. Michel famed for appearing in Belle De Jour and Contempt, passed away after suffering from a stroke.
His family confirmed he ‘died in the arms of his wife Ludivine and his children Inord and Missia’, who he is survived by, to AFP.
Michel – real name Jacques Daniel Michel Piccoli – was an actor, producer and film director who shot to fame in the 1940s and was considered a stalwart in French cinema, working with renowned directors Luis Bunuel, Jean-Luc Godard and Louis Malle.
The star, born in Paris, appeared alongside Brigitte Bardot in Godard’s movie Contempt, where he played a scriptwriter hired to work on an adaptation of The Odyssey.
