French actor Michel Piccoli has died at the age of 94. His family confirmed the sad news to French media on Monday. The prolific actor starred in more than 200 films throughout his screen career, which started in the 1940s.
Piccoli worked with a string of iconic directors including Jean Luc Godard, Luis Bunuel, Jean Renoir and Alfred Hitchcock. He starred opposite Brigitte Bardot in Godard's Le Mepris (Contempt) in 1963 and made six films with Spanish director Bunuel, including 1967's Belle de jour with Catherine Deneuve, The Milky Way (1969) and 1972's The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie.
