Giant Asian Hornet hunters have located and captured the first killer Queen of 2020 in the British Isles, sparking fears of an invasion.
The insect was spotted on the window of a property in Damouettes Lane in St Peter Port, Guernsey on Thursday. Asian Hornet hunters were then drafted in to capture the insect and discovered the bug to be a Queen.
Hornets can often be attracted into kitchens during early spring and Queens have been known to make their nests on windowsills.
Islanders have now been asked to check their homes and outdoor areas for potential nests. Giant Asian Hornets are five times bigger than honey bees and use their massive jaws to tear the bees in half as they lay the entire hive to waste.
