Sir Kevan Collins, who took up the position of education recovery commissioner just four months ago, said the support offered so far "does not come close to meeting the scale of the challenge” and "not enough is being done" to help children catch up with lost learning.
Education secretary Gavin Williamson's plans for additional tuition and teacher training come under fire after it was claimed that Sir Kevan had called for 10 times as much to be invested in the recovery.
