The GP thought it was mastitis and offered antibiotics. I’ve had mastitis, lain in bed in agony with cold cabbage leaves shaped around each breast.

This wasn’t mastitis. I did too much googling and was sure I had inflammatory breast cancer because of the pain and the fact that the skin on my left breast looked flushed.

It’s particularly aggressive, with a survival rate of two years. Before I got the biopsy results, I found a support group and talked to a woman who’d lived with it for a decade.I cried every day for a week.
