Naman Ramachandran U.K. commercial broadcaster ITV has hired Alex Pumfrey as director of strategic partnerships, reporting into Martin Goswami, group strategic partnerships and distribution director. Alex Pumfrey, currently CEO of the Film and TV Charity, revealed last week that she was stepping down after almost six years in the role. She will remain in the role through May and join ITV in June. Pumfrey replaces Lynette Kewley, who was director of strategic partnerships and moved over to ITV’s streamer ITVX as director of commercial and propositions last year. At ITV, Pumfrey will be responsible for developing relationships across national media players such as BBC, BT, Sky and Virgin Media and international tech giants including Apple, Amazon and Samsung.

An interim CEO will be announced in due course. Pumfrey has been CEO of the organization since 2017, where she has re-focused the charity’s efforts on mental health and wellbeing support in addition to financial and later life support, for example launching a 24-hour help line, setting up a mental health taskforce and publishing guidance such as the Whole Picture Toolkit to ensure mentally healthy productions.

K.J. Yossman The Film and TV Charity’s latest report on health and wellbeing in the U.K. screen industry shows improvements are slowly taking place. The Looking Glass Report 2022, which is based on a survey of 2,000 screen industry professionals last year, was published on Thursday and shows 80% of respondents felt there had been a positive change in culture and behavior throughout the U.K. screen industry. According to the report, mental wellbeing scores also improved marginally, from 19.3 to 19.7 on the Short Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (for context, the U.K, average is 23.6) while those reporting poor mental health dropped from 29% to 24%. Meanwhile reports of bullying, harassment, and discrimination dropped from 53% in 2021 to 46% in 2022.

UK’s Film & TV Charity Launches Cost-Of-Living Tools

The British film and TV industries could combat the growing skills shortage by improving its retention of staff aged 50+, a new paper claims. The Film & TV Charity study noted that older, experienced workers could make a “big contribution” to meeting industry needs during the current production boom.

Naman Ramachandran The U.K. Film and TV Charity has launched the 2022 iteration of its landmark mental health Looking Glass Survey, alongside a fundraising campaign.The first Looking Glass Survey in 2019 found that there was a mental health emergency happening behind the scenes in film, TV, and cinema, with 9 in 10 respondents to that survey stating that they had experienced a mental health problem. Following the survey, The Film and TV Charity launched a Bullying Advice Service, a Freelancer Wellbeing Hub, and several practical tools and resources, all available through the charity’s website.
