Your letter suggests his objections are based on the hassle of looking after a dog, rather than an objection to smells or a distaste for getting licked; but in any case, you’ve chosen a breed that is pretty much non-moulting, easily trainable and a delightful companion.

You have guaranteed that you’ll do all the poo-picking, walkies, feeding and everything else involved in owning a dog.As for holidays abroad – does your husband seriously think UK dog owners never get on a plane?
