A couple’s dream ‘bucket-list’ round-the-world cruise turned into a nightmare as the trip was blighted by coronavirus, a measles outbreak, and a medical emergency leaving them stranded 8,000 miles from home.
Chris and Carrie Clough, from Billingham, Teesside, are aboard the MV Arcadia - a P&O ship which is now heading to Tenerife from South Africa as of Friday.
They are two months into their 99-day cruise to celebrate their 20th anniversary and two big birthdays. But a disease outbreak, the coronavirus pandemic and a medical emergency has affected their trip - with Carrie’s life, at one point, in the balance.
They set off from Southampton on January 3. For live updates throughout the day on the coronavirus pandemic visit our liveblog.
