A couple died after they drank homemade beer to get round strict lockdown restrictions on alcohol. Tony Hilliar, 54, and Alida Fouche, 42, opted to make a batch of home-brew beer when they ran out of supplies.

The married couple lived in South Africa where the government has imposed hefty regulations on the sale of booze since the country went into lockdown a few weeks ago.

Both Tony and his wife Alida are believed to have collapsed at their house in Port Nolloth, reports the Mirror. Estate agent Tony made a desperate call for help, but when paramedics arrived at the scene, he was writhing in agony on the floor while his wife Alida had already passed away.
