Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was arrested for stealing a trainload of diesel according to BBC Panorama. The Russian oligarch, 55, has seen his assets seized by the UK Government - including Chelsea Football Club - as Boris Johnson orchestrates a crackdown on high-profile businessman with links to Vladimir Putin.
Amassing a net worth of £10.7bn, Abramovich made his money flogging previously Russian state-owned assets he acquired at the fall of the Soviet Union. But his wealth is mixed in a cloud of controversy with BBC Panorama investigating the source of Abramovich's fortunes four years ago.
Whilst uncovering a previous arrest warrant, the programme also discovered substantial links to corruption, theft and an alleged kidnapping. The investigators highlighted a secret five-page document that is believed to have been smuggled out of Russia.
The papers showed Abramovich was held in police custody in 1992 on suspicion of stealing a trainload of diesel.Lawyers informed the BBC that the allegations were a misunderstanding and the case went cold when a Moscow police chief launched a warrant for his arrest.
