Chelsea star had agreed terms for contract extension before government sanctions

Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger had reportedly agreed terms for a contract extension before the UK government imposed sanctions on Roman Abramovich.Before the latest development, the Rolls-Royce centre-back, 29, had seemingly been involved in a nightmare of negotiations.

The Blues are keen to extend his five-year stay at Stamford Bridge but Rudiger furiously snubbed Chelsea's latest contract offer in December, as he wants to double his £100k-a-week wages.Thomas Tuchel had offered an increased salary of £140,000 but it is believed the German international was outraged at the dismal offer.

Rudiger feels is one of the top players at the club and therefore is demanding a wage that reflects his seniority.Though it appears there had been a breakthrough.

Christian Falk, Head of Football at German outlet BILD, suggests that the defender had agreed terms for a new deal with the European champions.Yet the accordance was thwarted by Boris Johnson's crackdown on high-ranking Russian oligarchs with assets in the United Kingdom.
